This reminds me of gold panning. I know there is no "gold" in the picture, but the trees, the rushing water, seems like a great place for a sluice box... :)

Artist's Description

As I painted this watercolor alongside the Little Susitna River, the sound of the rushing water was very soothing and calming. The Hatcher Pass area in South Central Alaska is a very popular tourist attraction besides drawing artists and photographers to capture the beautiful countryside.

About Karen Mattson

Karen Mattson

Karen Mattson, Artist Karen Mattson grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, but moved to Alaska in 1968. Her interest in art began at an early age and it sparked a lifelong journey into the discovery of making art. She considers herself a self-taught artist, but has enjoyed learning from a few artists traveling in Alaska. Her intrigue with flowers comes from a deep love of gardening and the miracles, shadows and colors it produces. Her plein air work is primarily painted with oils and the use of a palette knife. Karen is a signature member of the Alaska...
